How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Carpet?

Having carpeting in your home has many advantages. It adds to the décor of your home, it comes in many styles, it is comfortable to walk or lay on, it can aid the acoustics of your home, and it’s statistically less likely to contribute to a slip-and-fall accident.

“Carpet sounds great!”

It does, but there is one downside to carpet that needs to be addressed. Without proper care, your carpet can quickly become an eyesore and a breeding ground for germs, allergens and other irritants that decrease your quality of life.

“Surely there must be a way I can enjoy the benefits of carpet while avoiding that fate!”

You’re in luck. All you need to do is make sure your carpets are regularly cleaned and periodically deep cleaned.

The best way for homeowners to keep their carpet clean is to vacuum regularly. It is estimated that the carpets in the average home can benefit from being vacuumed between 1-2 times per week. This will remove most dry soil and prevent abrasives such as sand from wearing down the carpet fibers.

“What about deep cleaning?”

The average household carpets should be deep cleaned at least once per year. Do-it-yourselfers can purchase or rent a steam cleaner or choose to leave the job in the hands of professionals. Coupons and other specials can often be found in local advertisements and on sites such as Groupon.

Many homeowners choose to have their carpets cleaned just before the stat of the holiday season, allowing them to present a clean home to their extended families and other holiday guests. Another great time to have your carpets cleaned is spring. This is especially true in places that have a harsh winter climate and the salt and grime that comes with it.

Investing the time and money to have your carpets deep cleaned once per year can prolong the useful life of your carpet, keep your home feeling and looking clean, and keep allergens and other pollutants away from your loved ones.
